"Cherishing Each Child"

Beach Day
Friday June 4th
Parents don't forget that beach day is June 4th. Please make sure that your child wears appropraite clothing and has sun cream!

Hello and welcome to the web site of Thornleigh Educate Together. We are an all inclusive school and at our school ‘no child is an outsider, and our Ethos is based on the four Principles of Educate Together – Democratically run, Child centered in our approach to teaching and learning, multi- denominational and co-educational. When you visit our school these pillars will become clear to you and just inside our front entrance you will see our Charter, which has been drawn up by Principal, staff and parents alike. It espouses the kind of school we are and the goals we strive for each day.

It is believed that if a child has a good foundation in English and Mathematics it will feed across all other curriculum areas and therefore the child will achieve their best possible results. We have looked into ways of ensuring this happens and as result we have embraced the First Steps Reading and Writing programmes in literacy and Ready Set Maths in numeracy.
In January 2010 we began with first Steps Writing in the form of Recounts, Free Writing and will continue with narrative. The children have blossomed under this programme and the guidance of their excellent teachers. On displays around the school and in the children’s free writing copies evidence of this is very clear. Speak to your class teacher if you would like to know more or see some samples of the work.
In relation to literacy and maths Ready Set Maths is based on the children obtaining an excellent grasp of number at an early stage in their development. Number is the basis for all maths strands and if the children are very familiar with, and have a good understanding of, number and the other areas of maths will be very accessible to them and easier to understand and grasp.

Another scheme we have embraced in conjunction with the School Completion Programme is Free Fruit on Friday. Each child in the school receives free fruit on Friday and the absolutely love it. The Junior Infant teachers cut the fruit up for the children and they receive it for little break. The children have an opportunity during the week to choose the type of fruit they like so therefore there is no wastage and the children are adhering to our Healthy Eating Policy. This has proven to be a huge success and the children look forward to their fruit after Assembly with Miss Paula each Friday morning.
If you would like to come in and see our hard working, beautifully displayed school and enquire further as to ‘school life’ - we welcome you.
